Love song quotes don’t have to suck.
Love songs are supposed to be from the heart, but at times, what our hearts say really isn’t that flattering. Though the best love songs have their own uniquely relatable side, most love songs are pretty repetitive and hackneyed. There’s only so many times you can hear someone say “I love you” before it loses meaning, right?
Song writers do, on occasion, find ways to convey their feelings beautiful. It’s rare, but it happens. I decided to take a look at some love song quotes on the net — because, you know, I’m a softie at heart. Hopefully these love quotes will strike a chord with you.
1. “You’re Still The One” by Shania Twain
Leave it to Shania’s achy, breaky heart to bring that country romance to life. Her song is all about defying the odds together, and coming out victorious.
Ain’t nothin’ better
We beat the odds together
I’m glad we didn’t listen
Look at what we would be missin’
2. “Pretty Green Eyes” by Ultrabeat
This electronic song is one of the few that has made me cry.
Pretty green eyes
So full of wonder and despair
It’s alright to cry
For I’ll be there to wipe your tears
And in your arms
Together we’re in paradise
And it’s so nice
You’ll never have to be alone
3. “Waiting For a Girl Like You” by Foreigner
Foreigner rules. End of story.
This heart of mine has been hurt before
This time I wanna be sure
4. “Bizarre Love Triangle” by New Order
This New Wave smash hit was all about a cheating spouse you just can’t leave. It’s oddly beautiful, in a melancholy way.
Every time I see you falling
I get down on my knees and pray
I’m waiting for that final moment
You’ll say the words that I can’t say
5. “Why Can’t I?” by Liz Phair
Ever have a guy who just takes your breath away? Yeah, that’s what Liz Phair is all about in this song.
Why can’t I breathe whenever I think about you?
Why can’t I speak whenever I talk about you?
It’s inevitable, it’s a fact that we’re gonna get down to it
So tell me
Why can’t I breathe whenever I think about you?
6. “Cherish” by Kool and the Gang
This lyric says it all…
If you receive your calling before I awake
Could I make it through the night?
7. “The Reason” by Hoobastank
Say what you will, but this old alternative rock song really was a good title for people who want to change for the better… for love.
I’ve found a reason for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
And the reason is you
8. “Lips of an Angel” by Hinder
This might be a song about an affair, but it still remains incredibly romantic — for a sleazy fling, anyway.
And I never wanna say goodbye
But, girl, you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel
9. “Something” by The Beatles
Yes, the Beatles can write a good love song. Of course, they can.
Something in the way she moves
Attracts me like no other lover
Something in the way she woos me
I don’t want to leave her now
10. “Jesse’s Girl” by Rick Springfield
Did you ever want someone you can’t have? Rick Springfield definitely understands you.
I play along with the charade
There doesn’t seem to be a reason to change
You know, I feel so dirty when they start talking cute
I wanna tell her that I love her
But the point is probably moot
11. “Just The Way You Are” by Bruno Mars
Bruno Mars has a natural romantic streak that comes out in his lyrics. This has to be his best line ever, though.
And when you smile
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
‘Cause you’re amazing
Just the way you are
12. “All of Me” by John Legend
This is romantic AF, and it’s such a nice way to say you’re a perfect person.
‘Cause all of me loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections
13. “Your Song” by Elton John
Just bring out the tissues already!
I hope you don’t mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you’re in the world
14. “Unconditionally” by Katy Perry
Who’d have thought that Katy Perry would be so down-to-earth?
All your insecurities
All the dirty laundry
Never made me blink one time.
15. “Kiss from a Rose” by Seal
I don’t care if it sounds like a song that kids at Renfair makeout to; it’s still romantic as can be.
There used to be a graying tower alone on the sea
You became the light on the dark side of me
Love remained a drug that’s the high and not the pill
But did you know
That when it snows
My eyes become large and
The light that you shine can be seen
16. “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys
No, really, what good is wealth without love?
Hand me the world on a silver platter
And what good would it be
With no one to share, with no one who truly cares for me
17. “Amazed” by Lonestar
In the late 90s, this was the best song to slow dance to.
Every little thing you do
Baby I’m amazed by you
18. “How Sweet It Is” by James Taylor
Oh, this crooner knew how to show gratitude towards a partner. He really brought it home!
I needed the shelter of someone’s arms
And there you were
I needed someone to understand my ups and downs
And there you were.
19. “The Way You Make Me Feel” by Michael Jackson
During the 80s, the King of Pop really had a following for his love songs. This danceable number had a couple of adorable lines I still love.
But I don’t care what they say
I’m in love with you
They try to pull me away
But they don’t know the truth
20. “Sunshine of Your Love” by Cream
I’m pretty sure playing this is the fastest way to channel that inner sexy hippie we all have. Just saying.
I’ve been waiting so long
To be where I’m coming
In the sunshine of your love
21. “Call Me” by Blondie
Blondie always had a sexy voice, but here, she’s totally passionate. This is an amazing hookup love song.
I don’t know why
Cover up love’s alibi
22. “Black Velvet” by Alannah Myles
This is one of the sexiest love songs out there, and honestly, it’s the kind of song you have sex to. Even today, Myles manages to outdo sexy crooners because of her spectacular voice and the way the lyrics describe the guy.
Black velvet with that slow southern style
A new religion that’ll bring you to your knees
Black velvet if you please
23. “Enjoy the Silence” by Depeche Mode
Depeche Mode is a band that’s known for having a lot of amazing love (uhhh… lust?) songs. This is just the cream of the crop.
All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here, in my arms
Words are very
They can only do harm
24. “My Guy” by Mary Wells
This old 60s Motown hit deserves a little more modern love. It’s still fresh as ever.
Nothing you could do could make me be untrue to my guy
Nothing you could buy could make me tell a lie to my guy
I gave my guy my word of honor, to be faithful… and I’m gonna
You’d better be believing
I won’t be deceiving my guy
25. “You Make Me Feel (Like A Natural Woman)” by Aretha Franklin

Before the day I met you
Life was so unkind
But you’re the key to my peace of mind
26. “Unchained Melody” by Righteous Brothers
This is a tearjerker, and remains one of the most difficult to sing songs of the 1950s. Somehow, that actually makes it even more romantic
Oh, my love, my darling
I’ve hungered for your touch
A long, lonely time
Time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
Are you still mine?
I need your love
27. “Young and Beautiful” by Lana Del Rey
We all worry our partners will ditch us as we age. Lana’s song is amazingly adept at bringing that to life beautifully.
Will you still love me
When I’m no longer young and beautiful?
Will you still love me
When I’ve got nothing but my aching soul?
I know you will
I know you will
28. “Halo” by Beyoncé
You might have heard this song 50,000 times, but it never gets old. It’s that perfect song for explaining love.

You’re the only one that I want
Think I’m addicted to your light
29. “Nothing Compares 2U” by Sinéad O’Connor
Oh, Sinéad. Your career was cut short too quickly. This heartbreaking song really shows how much passion you had for an ex.

Guess what he told me?
He said girl you better try to have fun
No matter what you do, but he’s a fool
‘Cause nothing compares
Nothing compares to you
30. “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton
Was there any song that better captured teen prom dances?

I say, ‘My darling, you were wonderful tonight.’
31. “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaak
We all have our emo sides to love. Chris Isaak knew how to bring that to a head, and created one of the most romantic breakup songs of all time.
It’s strange what desire will make foolish people do
I never dreamed that I’d meet somebody like you
And I never dreamed that I’d lose somebody like you
32. “Earth Angel” by The Penguins
This is basically 1950s romance wrapped up in a bow.

The vision of your love-loveliness
I hoped and I pray that someday
I’ll be the vision of your hap-happiness oh, oh, oh, oh!
33. “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith
Aerosmith’s glam rock classic is a favorite because of how well it conveys the need to experience the moment of love.

‘Cause I’ll miss you baby
And I don’t wanna miss a thing
34. “Illusion” by VNV Nation
This is a deep cut that’s still very popular among goths and rivet heads. It’s all about telling you to love yourself, and doing so romantically.

I’m begging you, please, please don’t leave here
I don’t want you to hate for all the hurt that you feel
The world is just illusion trying to change you
35. “Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day” by Morcheeba
Morcheeba’s upbeat love ballad is all about fighting against hate, loving one another, and also finding that special someone. If you need a pick-me-up in a song, you can’t get better than this one.
I’m having a day dream, we are getting somewhere
I’m kissing your lips and running fingers through your hair
I’m as nervous as you, ’bout making it right
Well we know we were wrong, we can’t give up the fight
36. “How Deep Is the Ocean?” by Irving Berlin

How much do I love you?
I’ll tell you no lie
How deep is the ocean?
How high is the sky?
37. “Isn’t It Romantic?” by Richard Rodgers
Another 1930s song that has been woefully forgotten. Still awesome.

Music in the night,
A dream that can be heard

Yes, metal can be romantic. If you actually listen to the lyrics, it’s pretty sweet.

To show you every one
It’s the time of the season for loving
44. “Moondance” by Van Morrison
“Moondance” has lyrics that sweep you off your feet in the most dazzling way ever, and you’ll love them for it.

A fantabulous night to make romance
‘Neath the cover of October skies

That cowboy swagger only helps make this a song that makes you hot under the collar.
The taste of love is sweet when two very hearts meet
I believe you like a child
Oh, but the fire went wild
46. “I Got Your Love” by Donna Summer
Donna Summer has a lot of amazing love songs, but this one is really overlooked. I mean, look at the lyrics.
Baby, in the heart of my heart, I want more
Of the man who just walked through that door
The only one that my eyes see
Baby, as the moments have drifted away
As the hours became lonely days
You’re the answer to what I have prayed
I, I will be good to you, I, I will be true
47. “Because I’m Me” by Avalanches
The lyrics to this song all deal with childhood love and crushes. They’re innocent and adorable. So is the music video. This is heart-meltingly sweet.
If she don’t love me, what can I do?
Just put on my best pair of shoes
Because I, I’m me
Because she said, ‘he’s the one that drill the charms
Honey let’s go wrong’
I just want to know
What’s wrong with me?
Being in love with you
48. “Because the Night” by Patti Smith
