Most famous for his role as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones, Momoa started his acting career when he starred in Baywatch Hawaii. Jason Momoa was born in Hawaii but he was raised by his mother in Iowa, which is why he is very much a die-hard feminist.

15 Wise Quotes From Fashion Icon Gloria Vanderbilt About Life, Love And How To Be Truly Happy

< ?xml encoding="utf8mb4" ?>

The fashion pioneer and household name’s life was certainly eventful.

Last month the fashion world lost an icon in Gloria Vanderbilt. Dying at the age of 95, she accomplished a lot during her long life. From acting to art to writing and of course her iconic work in fashion, Vanderbilt went on to become a household name in many industries.

Born on February 20, 1924 in Manhattan, she was the daughter of an equestrian millionaire. When her father died, Vanderbilt and her half-sister each were awarded $5 million ($70 million in today’s money). Gloria was still pretty young when the inheritance was paid out, so her mother took control of the trust fund and spent a lot of it for years.

Concerned that Gloria’s mother wasn’t fit to be in charge of her, Gloria’s aunt stepped in, setting off what became at the time one of the most controversial trials in history. Ultimately it was decided that Gloria would live with her aunt and the mother was forced to live on a drastically reduced amount of the trust fund.

Beyond her childhood, Vanderbilt went into acting in 1954, primarily starring in plays and even made Broadway in the show The Time of Your Life. She eventually made her way to television, however, most of her appearances were on talk shows such as The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and CBS Sunday Morning News.

In the 70s, Vanderbilt began to get into the fashion industry as a designer, putting her art skills to use and applying their designs to a new line of scarves. After joining the Murjani Corporation, Vanderbilt’s signature was sewn onto a new line of designer jeans which is what Vanderbilt would be remembered for. But it wasn’t long after that she left Murjani and made her own company, GV Ltd, where she made a variety of clothing and luxury products including dresses and liqueur.

Gloria Vanderbilt was a mother of four children: Leopold Stanislaus Stokowski, Christopher Stokowski, Carter Vanderbilt Cooper, and American journalist and CNN anchor, Anderson Cooper.

Through the years Gloria Vanderbilt did a lot with her life and with those experiences comes wisdom. So, here are some of the best Gloria Vanderbilt quotes from this fashion icon.

1. How to find happiness.

“To be happy–one must find one’s bliss” — Gloria Vanderbilt

2. It’s all about helping others.

11 Linkin Park Songs That Take On A Whole New Meaning After Chester Bennington’s Suicide

< ?xml encoding="utf8mb4" ?>

He shared so much raw beauty with those of us who needed it most.

The loss of Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington to suicide on July 20, 2017, left a deep whole in the hearts of many — not simply because he is “yet another” famous rock star in the long list of famous rock stars who died younger than they should have (he was just 41 years old at the time), but because his music spoke to us in such uniquely direct terms about the pain he struggled with throughout his far too brief life.

Bennington, like his music, was real and raw — about life, about addiction, about his craft, and yes, about the crippling hold of depression.

I don’t know if it’s a Gen X thing, a Xennial thing, or just an adult human trying to make it through this life thing, but as magnificent as Bennington was as an artist, the lyrics of the songs he composed have a magical quality enhanced by virtue of just how brutally real they are.

In a 2009 interview with Spin, he said, “This is just who I am, this is what I write about, what I do, and most of my work has been a reflection of what I’ve been going through in one way or another.”

I’d be willing to bet that at times more numerous than we can imagine over the past several decades, far more than one person found themselves saved in a moment of soul-crushing desperation when they played their favorite Linkin Park songs, took in the strength and security of Bennington’s literal and lyrical voice, and decided to stay here and “MakeChesterProud.

The depth of meaning in his words is all the more obvious now, of course.

Take a moment to look for yourself and find the messages within these excerpts from 11 of the best Linkin Park songs about depression, suicidal thoughts, addiction and even sexual abuse.

1. “Heavy” from One More Light (2017)

According to the lyrics page on Genius, this song “centers around the emotional weight of fixating on oneself… Chester Bennington said in an interview with 102.7 KIIS FM that ‘Heavy’ is a song of enlightenment, where a person takes a step back and realizes that a great deal of emotional strain is self-inflicted.”

The band shared that the lyrics were written based on their discussions amongst themselves about …

Interestingly, during an interview with Howard Stern, Jackson explained that his famous use of curse words actually help him control his speech impediment.

Early in his career, Jackson moved to New York to pursue his career in acting (after a 2 year stint of social working in Los Angeles right out of college), and earned several off-Broadway gigs before finally reaching his “break out” role in Pulp Fiction in 1994, directed by  Quentin Tarantino.

50 Great Patriotic Quotes To Help You Celebrate Freedom — And Have A Happy Fourth Of July

< ?xml encoding="utf8mb4" ?>

‘We must be free not because we claim freedom, but because we practice it.’ — William Faulkner

Happy 4th of July!

On July 4, 1776, fifty-six leaders of the Continental Congress signed the Declaration of Independence. With this signing, our Founding Fathers declared themselves, along with the 2.5 million people living in the thirteen colonies, members of a new, independent nation: The United States of America.

This year’s Independence Day — July 4, 2019 — marks the 243rd anniversary of our country’s founding and the birth of the American dream.

Every year, patriotic folks across the nation celebrate our freedom and this momentous occasion with firework displays, BBQ parties, parades, outdoor games and lots (and lots!) of American-made beer, as scores of American flags can be seen soaring across the nation.

In fact, The National Retail Federation (NRF) reports that “Eighty-six percent of Americans plan to celebrate Independence Day this year, spending a total $6.7 billion on food items, according to NRF’s annual survey conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics. Cookouts, barbecues and picnics continue to be the most popular activity (61%), followed by fireworks and community celebrations (40%).”

Some of the most popular menu items include hamburgers, ribs, potato salad, and hot dogs.

Meanwhile, U.S. Census Bureau data released by the Department of Commerce estimates that in 2012, $368.6 million worth of fireworks were purchased from retailers across the country.

Check out this spectacular display of fireworks in New York City that took place a few years ago (pretty impressive, huh?):

Displays and events like these bring families, friends, and community members together to mark the day and put their American pride on full display.

And being able to celebrate this American pride and patriotism is one of this country’s greatest hallmarks.

Over the years, many have spoken out about what makes America such a remarkable country.

The following quotes and sayings from their statements are patriotic, inspiring, and thought-provoking.

They reflect on our country’s long, unique history as the land of the free and home of the brave. And they show us what it means to be an American and have pride in this country’s values, including liberty, freedom, opportunity, and honesty.

In an era when it’s easy to find faults in this country’s current state of affairs, statements like these remind us of some of the reasons why America is so great after all.

26 Funny 4th Of July Memes & Patriotic Quotes About Independence Day To Share With Family & Friends

< ?xml encoding="utf8mb4" ?>

Let’s celebrate our freedom!

The 4th of July is a day for beer, brats and bright fireworks.

It’s a time for our families to come together to barbecue, and watch the beautiful lights in the sky, and maybe even get an extra day or two off of work.

But that’s not what it’s really about is it?

On July 4, 1776, the 13 original colonies of the United States of America all joined together to declare their independence from England. It’s when our country began. It’s when we decided that we wanted to do things differently — we wanted to be a land where people were free to live their lives, that no one person could make all of the laws the govern the way everyone is to live.

We put a structure in place that allowed the citizens of America live their lives with a voice to change things. To stand up and be heard.

There are a lot of problems in the country right now. Everyone is fighting; no one can seem to agree on anything. But what we must remember is that we are lucky to have the freedom to argue. We are lucky to have the voices we have. We are lucky to live in a country that not only allows but encourages us to use our voices to conduct change.

That is what the Fourth of July is all about. It is about the entire country coming together to celebrate our right to change: To celebrate our voices. To celebrate our ideas. To celebrate our choices. To celebrate our freedom. To celebrate America.

Happy 4th of July everyone!

Here are 26 of the best 4th of July quotes and funny memes about Independence Day to help you celebrate on social media before heading out to go meet your family and friends at the beach and the BBQ.

3. Don’t forget you shades!

25 Best ‘Wedding Crashers’ Quotes Of All Time

Rule #1: Never leave a fellow Crasher behind.

For bachelors, going to a wedding is a great place to meet women, all while celebrating the bride and groom. And when you have a lot of single friends, you have many more opportunities to meet the one. On the other hand, there are some men who prefer to just have flings with women they meet at weddings. It’s a refined skill, and not every guy is good at it.

But in 2005, when the movie Wedding Crashers came out, it became sort of a guide for single men trying to have sex with women. Whether it was a bridesmaid, a family member, or another guest, Wedding Crashers gave tons of tips on how to be a womanizer, sneak into weddings, and bring home a babe.

Of course, in the film, not everything goes according to plan. Vince Vaughn’s character, Jeremy Grey, falls in love with Gloria, the sister of Claire, whom John Beckwith, Owen Wilson’s character, is smitten with. The two men find themselves at odds with one another, questioning their set of wedding crasher rules.

It’s been 14 years since the film’s release, and to celebrate this anniversary, as well as wedding season, here are some of our favorite Wedding Crashers quotes that will no doubt make you laugh, and maybe believe in love again.

But my devotion to him goes much further than simply liking and listening to his music. It’s much more transcendental than that. His music touches me in so many ways and each lyrically rich verse and melodic tune is significant for me in different ways and reminds me of certain stages in my life.

Frank Ocean’s first studio album, channel ORANGE, came out in the summer of 2012 when I was beginning my Junior year of college. When I listen to the album now, I’m instantly transported back to a time when my roommates and I would blast Frank Ocean’s songs in our apartment all day or when we would go to the beach and play his music through our portable speakers. That album got me through long, sleepless nights of homework and cramming for exams.

When I studied abroad in Spain, I would play his album whenever I was feeling homesick and missed my friends. It brought me so much comfort to know they were at home singing along to the same songs I was.

His highly anticipated second album, Blond, was released in the summer of 2016. It came out at a time when I was starting a new chapter in my life — a new house, new job and new friends. When I listen to that album, I think of my summer romance and the countless times we would drive around in his car, listening and singing along to Frank Ocean.

When I’m sad, anxious, lonely, contemplative, drunk, hungover, happy, stoned, aloof or nostalgic, I turn on Frank Ocean, and he helps put my mind at ease.

Despite his obvious musical talents, which have won him two Grammys and seven nominations, Frank Ocean just has an authentic aurora about him that captivates me, along with so many others.

Ocean is not a celebrity. He is an artist. He stays out of the spotlight as much as possible and uses his God-given talents to speak his truth, create and share with the public. His music …

She’s still Jenny from the block!

The entertainment superstar Jennifer Lopez, who is lovingly referred to as J-Lo, has had quite the career. It feels like yesterday she was starring in her breakout role as Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez in the biopic film Selena, and that film is 21 years old this year.

Time really flies when you’re enjoying everything J-Lo.

Many of us have grown up with Jennifer Lopez and seen her transformation over her impressive career in the spotlight. She’s conquered film, music, television and even perfume. To this day, Glow by J-Lo is the greatest perfume I’ve ever owned.

This lady is one of the hardest-working women in the entertainment industry. That incredible work ethic is what has made Jennifer Lopez the successful entertainer, business woman and humanitarian that she is today.

Her journey to stardom is just as beloved by her fans as her movies and TV shows.

Jennifer — or ‘Jenny from the block’ — grew up in the Bronx and worked her way up from being a back-up dancer for Janet Jackson and Fly Girl on In Living Color to an accomplished actress and singer. Now, she’s a veteran, making major moves as a producer on projects like El Cantante, The Boy Next Door, World of Dance and Shades of Blue.

Just thinking about her busy schedule might exhaust us regular humans, but J-Lo is on a whole other level.

Her drive inspires us to reach for the stars and be the best version of ourselves. Even with all her success, she still makes time to give back.

When Hurricane Maria severely damaged much of Puerto Rico last year, she was on the forefront of raising money for recovery relief. Jennifer and her ex-husband Marc Anthony created the artist alliance Somos una Voz to help the devastated island by providing things like medical supplies, food, water, shelter and power.

In addition to being an accomplished businesswoman and humanitarian, she is also a trendsetter and beauty icon who helped redefine Hollywood beauty standards. While many people reference Kim Kardashian for making a “curvacious” booty popular, it was Jennifer who did it first.

She’s the original booty queen.

Oh, and did I mention she’s also ageless? This week Jennifer shared an Instagram post at the gym, and it’s kind of hard to believe that she is going to be one year away from 50!…
