You don’t need anyone but you to make you happy.
We’ve all been there. By there, what I really mean is single. And, more than likely all of us have been single — again. It’s hard to know how to embrace the single life and all its benefits in the way we want to.
Maybe our last relationship was a few years ago and we’ve been single longer than we care to admit.
Or maybe we’re one of those people who is rarely single because we’ve been in a relationship for a long time, or find ourselves back in one before we can process the end of the old one.
It doesn’t matter how, when, or why we find ourselves single. The point is we are or have been in this situation.
And what’s more important about being single is not looking at it or treating it in a negative way.
You used to have someone around 24/7 who you could go to for anything and everything. Problems and jokes, good night and good morning texts… you became used to the ease and routine of this communication.
You also had a go-to person for all your activities. Needed to run some errands? He came along. Wanted to see that new movie? She was in the seat next to you handing over the popcorn.
You had a hand to hold, a shoulder to lean on, and a mouth to kiss, and now it’s gone. Your routine and comfort has been taken from you, and you’re not sure how to feel or react.
Do you even remember how to be single? Do you even know how to function?
It’s not impossible to be single once you’ve been in a relationship. It just takes some getting used to!
Here’s the thing, “single you” and “taken you” shouldn’t be too much different than each other. Besides the obvious of having a significant other, you are the same person you have always been.
You still have friends to see movies with and go to with problems. You still have your own two feet to stand on. You’re not broken. You just need to learn how to be single again.
This starts by focusing on the positives of being single rather than the negatives that for some reason accompany the word.
