20 Funny Quotes & Famous Catchphrases From The Best, Most Nostalgic Sitcoms Of All Time

One-liners that make us laugh every time we re-watch our favorite TV programs.

Television is a big part of society. Our parents, our parent’s parents, and for some of us our parent’s parent’s parents, have tuned in to watch the news, games, shows, dramas and my personal favorite, the comedy.

Television comedies take many forms. There is sketch comedy, like Saturday Night Live or The Carrol Burnett Show, where they think of funny ideas and play them in vignettes, where there is no through story line from episode to episode, season to season.

There is also the comedy-drama or “dramedy” as it is sometimes nicknamed. The dramedy follows a format more like things are in real life. The story is driving to a dramatic finish, but sometimes funny things will happen as they do in day to day life. Think one of the most famous of these… F.R.I.E.N.D.S.

But my personal favorite is the sitcom. Everyone loves a good sitcom. Sitcom (short for situational comedy, if you didn’t already know), are shows where first they develop the characters and their relationships, and those characters get themselves in and out of zany predicaments week in and week out. Sometimes its centered around a family, or a group of friends, or a workplace. Sometimes its centered around a place that strangers come to and find commonality and understanding.

From I Love Lucy, all the way to The Big Bang Theory and beyond, sitcoms have had us laughing for years. Here are some of the greatest funny quotes and most famous catchphrases from some of the best sitcoms of all time.

30 Iconic Samuel L. Jackson Quotes And Lines From His Most Famous Movies

One of the most critically acclaimed actors of all time.

Before he was one of the highest paid actors of all time, appearing in movies such as Jungle Fever and Do the Right Thing, Star Wars and The Avengers, Samuel L. Jackson was born in Washington D.C. in 1948, and spent the majority of his childhood raised by his grandmother in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He idolized film-making and movies since he was a child, going to the movie theater near where he lived quite often.

Due to being bullied so much in school, after almost a year of not speaking at all, he developed debilitating stutter, which still has an effect on his speech to this day. Interestingly, during an interview with Howard Stern, Jackson explained that his famous use of curse words actually help him control his speech impediment.

Early in his career, Jackson moved to New York to pursue his career in acting (after a 2 year stint of social working in Los Angeles right out of college), and earned several off-Broadway gigs before finally reaching his “break out” role in Pulp Fiction in 1994, directed by  Quentin Tarantino.

Let’s take a look back at some of the most legendary Samuel L. Jackson quotes and some of his most famous movie lines throughout his long and glorious career.

35 Legendary Quotes From Meryl Streep In Celebration Of Her 70th Birthday

It’s been 70 years for the Hollywood staple.

In 1949 in the city of Summit, New Jersey, a legend was born. Originally named Mary Louise Streep (and eventually going by Meryl), she’s gone on to star in numerous movie hits and become a household name. Her birthday was just a few weeks ago — Meryl Streep turned 70 years old.

Beginning with voice lessons at age 12, Streep went on through high school and college with the intent of being on stage. At first she leaned more toward opera, but near the end of her collegiate tenure at Vassar College she took more of an interest in acting. After graduating, Streep enrolled in the Yale School of Drama.

After all that schooling, Streep debuted on Broadway when she was 26 in a play called Trelawny of the ‘Wells.’ Two years later she found herself in film in the movie Julia (1977). But it wasn’t until one year after that that Streep began to become recognized, earning an Oscar nomination for her role in the film The Deer Hunter (1978).

With her new-found success, Streep went on to star in many signature films, including Sophie’s Choice (1985; for which she won an Academy Award), The Bridges of Madison County (1995), The Devil Wears Prada (2006) and Mamma Mia! (2008).

Most recently, Streep has been in movies such as The Iron Lady (2011), The Post (2018) and she reprised her role in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018). Currently, Streep has joined the cast of the HBO series Big Little Lies, which is in its second season.

Throughout her acting career, Streep has built up a tremendous list of starring roles, awards and nominations, including a record 23 Academy Award nominations. Along with those she was also given a Golden Globe (specifically the Cecil B. DeMille) for lifetime achievement.

Aside from her acting career, Streep has been married to sculptor Don Gummer for nearly 41 years. She also has four children, each of which has gone on to make a name for themselves in the entertainment industry.

Over the years Streep has accomplished quite a lot and has had one of the greatest acting careers ever. With those achievements also comes speeches, interviews and a bunch of other public appearances, so Streep has had plenty of quotable moments. Here are some of them.

25 Best ‘Wedding Crashers’ Quotes Of All Time

Rule #1: Never leave a fellow Crasher behind.

For bachelors, going to a wedding is a great place to meet women, all while celebrating the bride and groom. And when you have a lot of single friends, you have many more opportunities to meet the one. On the other hand, there are some men who prefer to just have flings with women they meet at weddings. It’s a refined skill, and not every guy is good at it.

But in 2005, when the movie Wedding Crashers came out, it became sort of a guide for single men trying to have sex with women. Whether it was a bridesmaid, a family member, or another guest, Wedding Crashers gave tons of tips on how to be a womanizer, sneak into weddings, and bring home a babe.

Of course, in the film, not everything goes according to plan. Vince Vaughn’s character, Jeremy Grey, falls in love with Gloria, the sister of Claire, whom John Beckwith, Owen Wilson’s character, is smitten with. The two men find themselves at odds with one another, questioning their set of wedding crasher rules.

It’s been 14 years since the film’s release, and to celebrate this anniversary, as well as wedding season, here are some of our favorite Wedding Crashers quotes that will no doubt make you laugh, and maybe believe in love again.

Of course, it wouldn’t be right if we didn’t start with the best John Beckwith quotes from the film…

1. Advice we should all follow

2. Classic

4. Way to be a bummer

6. Yeah, that’s not good

There’s a child inside of all of us, and that child comes out every time you watch a cute, animated movie! When I think of animation, the first thing that comes to mind is Disney.

Disney has made classic animated movies, like “Snow White” and “Cinderella,” and they continue to make popular animated films for all ages to enjoy. You don’t have to be a five-year-old or have a five-year-old to watch an animated movie.

50 Most Iconic Chick Flick Quotes That Will Make You Laugh, Cry — And Make You Want To Watch All These Movies All Over Again

These quotes are SO fetch!

Chick flicks: they’re a guilty pleasure! We can all admit they’re not cinematic masterpieces, but there’s something so fun and lighthearted about a chick flick that makes us want more. Movie studios continue to crank out these movies on Netflix, Hulu and the like because they cater to a huge audience — mainly women. If you’re lucky, you have a special guy in your life who’s willing to sit through one of these movies.

I’ve never seen a chick flick that made me think hard or brought on a deep conversation like some movies do after you watch them, but that’s the beauty of them. They’re easy to watch and they somehow make me feel good.

The early 2000’s was a time when chick flicks peaked in popularity. I mean all the classics we think of today came out at that time! “Mean,” “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” “13 Going on 30,” “Legally Blonde,” the list goes on and on.

This past weekend, I watched a lot of chick flicks and romantic comedies and realized they all have the same feel. It’s almost like each movie uses the same formula that works every time. The movies even have similar music! Overall, when I feel like watching a happy, feel-good movie, I always turn to a good chick flick.

If you love chick flicks and romantic comedies as much as I do, then you’ll love these 50 quotes from your favorite movies! You and your friends probably still quote them today.

1. When you meet somone who’s just like you.

“You and I are such similar creatures, Vivian. We both screw people for money.” — Pretty Woman

2. When all you have is each other.

“This time, we didn’t make any wishes for the future. We said goodbye to our past. Now, none of us have any idea where life’s gonna take us, because what we have is now. And right now, we have each other.” — Crossroads

3. When you’re being romantic.

“I wrote you 365 letters. I wrote you every day for a year. It wasn’t over… it still isn’t over.” — The Notebook

4. When you’re mad and bitter.

“Your wedding will be huge…like your at prom.” — Bride Wars

5. When someone frustrates you.

25 Famous 90s Movie Quotes Every Single Girl Can Relate To

Ah, the 90s. It was a simpler time when people didn’t have to worry about things like social media, cell phones and dating apps.

Being a single woman these days is exciting, but it can be a struggle too. We are juggling things like careers, friends, dating and sex. Then, of course, there’s the pressure we get from society to fit a certain mold.

With social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, women are under more scrutiny than ever before; As if we didn’t already have it hard enough.

We are bombarded with reminders of what everyone is accomplishing and maybe we just aren’t there yet.

For many of us, a good nostalgia trip watching some of our favorite films from back in the day can be the best medicine after a stressful week. These films taught us about love and life, and they helped shape us into the women we are today. They made us laugh and made us cry. There’s also a good chance they even gave us our first crush too.

Yeah, looking at you, Jack Dawson.

When we are feeling a bunch of emotions, whether good or bad, sometimes the best way of expressing ourselves can be through quotes. They can be quotes about love, friendship quotes, depression, frustration, or even funny quotes.

Films that defined our youth are extra special, because we feel like the screenwriters understood us. Not only are they saying what we want to express to the world, but they also take us back to a happier time.

For the single women out there, it’s easy to feel like the world just doesn’t get us. Maybe our parents are questioning our career choices, or that guy we slept with is probably, in fact, an idiot. Sometimes we could use a good reminder of how strong we are and that we are not alone.

So look to these nostalgic 90s movie quotes for the single woman for comfort, maybe some laughs, and a little reminder that you’re lovely just the way you are — whether or not you’re in a relationship.

25 Best Love Quotes From Our Favorite Romantic Movies & TV Shows

Love, as told by your favorite characters.

I find myself watching a ton of movies and tv shows in my free time. Every time I watch something new I notice how deeply invested I become in the characters, especially the ones that fall in love.

One of my favorite movies is Dirty Dancing. There is a scene in the movie where the main characters, Baby and Johnny are in a room together and Baby confesses that she is scared she will never find a love like him if she leaves. The simple but heart-felt statement gets me every time. I find myself quoting all of Baby’s lines as a smile at the screen. I can’t help myself! I am instantly overcome with joy.

Even though you know it isn’t real it makes you warm on the inside. The words exchanged give you hope that your true love is somewhere out in the universe just waiting to find you.

You fantasize about it more than you care to admit. You may even stop to ask yourself if it is even possible to truly love someone the way people do on the screen. Your answer might be a strong no, but like me, it doesn’t stop you from watching. If anything, you get pulled deeper in.

There is something about love, real or fake that ignites a flame in romantics. It makes you feel things you never thought you could and hope for things you never thought you wanted. Love is a magical thing, even on-screen.

Here are some great love quotes from movies and tv shows that will have you smiling from ear to ear as you feel your heart melting on the inside.
