Hitting rock bottom is one of the hardest things for me to describe. Our own “hitting rock bottom” moments are things we all tend to talk about a lot because they’re what shape us into the people we become.

So I entertain this idea of rock bottom in my mind, trying to put into words exactly how being at rock bottom feels. The best definition I’ve been able to think of is just this: You know it when you feel it. 

It’s the feeling you get when things are going wrong all around you, and life feels chaotic — even hopeless. You’re losing drive, motivation and the ability to think clearly. 

To me, hitting rock bottom kind of feels like a roller coaster you can’t get off of. Of course, to make things worse, the roller coaster is underwater, so it’s really only a matter of time before you can’t hold your breath any longer. You drown under the pressure. In short, it sucks. 

The real question, though, is how do you take those feelings and channel them into something positive? How do you build yourself back up from rock bottom? How do you make it back to the surface?
