Turn that neck hold into a hug!
April 10, 2019 is National Siblings Day, and it’s the perfect time to reflect on why your siblings are actually your best friends, no matter what you went through when you were young.
Growing up with siblings can often feel like a blessing or a curse. You share the same blood, you share the same family, and sometimes you’ve been forced to share the same room or space, much to your annoyance. You’ve been through every stage of life together and know each other better than anyone.
And no matter what happens, you really wouldn’t have had it any other way. No one can deny that when push comes to shove, your brothers or sisters are the people that you know you can rely on the most when you need it. They’re not just your “sibling”; they’re your best friend and you can’t imagine having a better partner to travel through life together with.
But sibling friendship is something special that has its own ups and downs and bittersweet moments; you’re going to fight, you’re going to argue, and yeah, you might even steal food or frame each other for your own bad behavior. You’re always going to wonder who your parents really love best. But in the end, no matter how much drama you’re being forced to put up with, or punishments and groundings you have to share together, you know that in your heart, they’re always going to be there for you. Your petty sibling rivalries will always take a backseat when one of you is in trouble.
No one gets to mess with your sibling except for you, after all!
So today on National Siblings Day, give your sisters or brothers a call or hold them close so that you can enjoy the time that you’ve spent together and all the time you’ll be together for years to come. Remind them just how much you love them and how much you need them in life.
A brother or sister might be frustrating to deal with at times, but you know that you’ve got a partner in crime for whatever you’re going through. Someone to beat up the bullies for you, or to hold you after you go through heartbreak. Celebrate your amazing, wonderful bond today, and be appreciative of the love you have for each other.
Life chose the two (or more!) of you to be together and to support each other through thick and thin with a bond that isn’t easily broken. So go out there and remind them just how much you love them being related you… (No matter what you might have said when you were both younger.)
