Tring Tring: Its Love not attachment

After relaxing holidays with my parents in Himachal Pradesh, I was back to the same routine.  The call rings “Tring Tring”

I  could hear a soft spoken lady from the other side, who introduced herself as  Mrs. Dasgupta

“Hello Sukanya, I am Mrs. Dasgupta talking from Delhi, I got your contact details from Jeevansathi.com. We are looking for a prospective bride for my younger brother Naboneel”

I was neutral. No excitement.  This was quite normal for me. Since the past 12 months I had put my profile on Jeevansathi.com, hoping to find my second life partner.

Every other day I received an alliance related call and it had become an integral part of my daily life. At the point of time, I jotted down a two-page documents regarding my  introduction and it had become byheart, A series of interrogate questions which were generally ask by the perspective alliance, I wanted to be overprepared after my disaster first innings but at this stage I byhearted with my introduction and confidently face the interrogate session.

I walked back home and started my preparation for cookie, which is generally my half time task. Cooking for me  is like stress relief therapy which I normally do after my college hour to relax from my  fully  packed schedule.

Since  it was my first  attempt  to bake cookies, I was bit confused and lost in the subtleties of the process of baking cookies.

As my hands neared the microwave, and I opened its door – came a sound from nowhere.

“Beep Beep”

The msg read  “Ami Naboneel bolchi, Apnar contact details didi tike pelam (Naboneel  speaking, I got your contact details from my elder sister)” I was really surprised!!  A man speaking with so much of respect, I was overwhelmed.

For a few moments Back to my previous phase of my life “Partha my ex-husband who never refer “tumi” to me always use “tui”. Never give respect to me nor to my parents first time ever  heard “Appni” from  man and that touched my heart.

BEEP BEEP

Microwave time alert stop  “and I  smell the aroma of the cookies .

Time flies but memories continue to remain in our heart.

After completing my dinner, Its mother time (The only time where I talk heart to heart with my mother), I discussed my  entire day with her, she is the only woman in my life who listen …

Anything for you, Love

Excerpt: With his favourite juice on his side, and his most preferred breakfast on the table, he smiled and said, “Babe you are the best, you made my weekend.”

The idea of marriage always fascinated Shirley – a fun loving, independent, strong headed person. The post marriage life, the avatar she’d take, the places she’d go with her man, the things they’d do together, all the things she saw, felt and believed would happen after marriage, always got her excited in her head. “I just can’t believe”, she murmured and opened her eyes to mute the alarm, it was 6:30 in the morning and for the first time a careless rebel woke up at once. Her alarm had a new entry now, “6:30” which it had not seen ever since she left school.

Waking up as a married woman now, she thought to herself, “did anything change” Well nothing except for the fact that you are married now – spoke her content inner self. Beside her lay, her man, her husband, the man she loved dearly. Overwhelmed she thought., this is what she wanted, she is living it now. The morning felt the same, but the surroundings were different, she was getting ready but someone was still asleep, as she moved to step out of a different room now, she whispered to herself, “did anything change” and left with a confused smile.

Sitting on the favourite corner of her house, sipping tea, she looked through her balcony and wondered, “did anything change”, the roads still seem the same, the hustle of the city was indeed the same, moreover, she looked the same. It has been two months now and nothing had changed she thought, with a sudden realisation of not doing the pending laundry in the machine and left at once to complete the task. He will not complain, but she would not like him to wear the same socks the next day.

It was 9:30 in the night, having dinner together, he shifted his focus from his phone for a minute noticing her continuously murmur something, he smiled and said, the food is really nice, you cook really well. “Anything for you, love” she replied. Struggling to type, to reply to something on his phone, looking at him, she too picked up her phone to reply to a message from one her new family members, an introvert wondering “did

I Love You My Hubby

~ शिखा…

Irresistable attraction

Excerpt: Listen to me. I love you so much. I will marry you off with the best natured man and you will be ever happy.

Irresistible attraction

I ran and ran over the late night city of Delhi and hid myself in a trash barrel.  Two men passing by the lane unfortunately seem to have noticed me.  One of them came nearer “hey Little girl, what are you doing in that garbage bin at this late hour? ” He looks around in disdain and his piercing grey eyes land back on me. I pull my orbs down and looked at my sky blue evening ball gown which is now reduced to a rag.

A few hours ago…

“Wake up Angel, don’t you remember today is your birthday and you have to distribute sweets in your school?”

My mom beamed through the entrance.  I slid the covers out of my head and jumped out of my bed in a stretch.  Yay! Today is my birthday.  I dressed in my most favourite dress which I and my dad brought two days ago.  Seeing more of princess movies, it’s my dream to dress like a princess and I brought the most elegant evening ball gown.

I went down the stairs to catch my dad immersed in the news paper in his hands.  He saw me out the paper and instantly the corners of his lip twitch upwards.  “Baby Girl, wish you a very happy birthday” he wishes me with a smile.  He holds my soft little hands in his large ones and instantly a feeling of warmness touches my heart. After a few seconds he gets a ring, speaks to somebody on his phone and instantly his emotions change.

Immediately I was pushed into a bullet proof room “baby girl, no matter what you hear, never come out of this room.”

He cautions me staring with his blood shot eyes. In a few minutes I could hear gunshots being fired like a never ending rain.  After some time the sounds of bullets calm down. With trembling legs, I come out of my hiding and see the silhouette of the person who is responsible to make my life a disaster.  I take the gun from the top drawers of my father’s desk where I know rested a revolver and abruptly fire multiple shots at the slayer who made my life a catastrophe.

A Big Surprise

Excerpt: As she had never even dated any other than Tom, breakups were something she only knew from other people, from magazines and television.

Two sentences, that’s how much it took to shatter her life. She knew that now as she was gazing down on the cell phone screen that seemed to be intentionally glaring back at her. She had had to read the words several times to suspend her disbelief.

“Have you told your wife about me? When can I see you again?”

Alice was surprised that she didn’t feel anything, not anger or panic or even a hint of pain, as she stood next to the kitchen table with her husband’s phone in her hand. It was as if her whole being had instantly frozen up on the inside, perhaps to protect her from falling apart. But in her mind there was perfect clarity. She knew that her husband was having an affair.

She had suspected that something was wrong, but not that. Lately his demeanor had changed, not a lot, but enough to tell her that something was going on in his life that she did not know about. Because she had not been able to put a finger on what exactly was different about him she hadn’t had a good reason to ask him what was going on. She knew all too well that such conversation would go nowhere.

Tom, her husband, was not one to share his innermost thoughts and feelings with others, even his wife. He had told her once that he took pride in keeping his concerns to himself, and that she shouldn’t try to change that. All through their marriage she had learned that he really meant it, and that he had a genuine desire to keep her away from anything unpleasant. Although she knew that this could be expected from a husband who was ten years older than his wife, she had never been able to fully reconcile herself with this trait. On the one hand it was condescending, and on the other it was secretive and poisonous to their marriage. And now this had happened.

“Alice!”, a muffled voice suddenly called. It came from the bathroom where Tom had rushed in after having cut himself on a finger. Typically him he wanted to spare her of the sight of blood. It was then that Alice had picked up his cell

Love at First Call

“You’re 25 now and still single. What a shame!”

“What is it you want in a man? You’ll get an old man if the right age surpasses. There won’t be any use of crying over spilt milk.”

“It’s a feminine issue, one shouldn’t be so careless.”

Khadija was immune to such comments. She was 25 and being single at this age in a Pakistani society was more like a sinful act for girls. It had been years since she had been listening creepy stuffs about her, but the good thing was, she had gotten immune to them all. Her family had been trying to set her up with someone for a few years, but she hadn’t gotten any luck yet. After experiencing three to four years of continuous torture, she was okay with what was happening around her and nothing bothered her anymore.

Well, that’s what is easier said than done! That’s what she told herself that she was okay and nothing disturbed her, but deep down, it was killing her. She felt herself draining in depression that made her ill-tempered and grumpy. She spent hours crying alone late at night and gave up on her situation. Being weak wasn’t an attribute of her personality. She was a strong and bold lady and she hated herself for being like that. “Nothing is more detestable than being unable to control your emotions.” She thought.

“He’s a good man with a good job and education. You asked for an educated man and he’s masters and doing PhD. What more do you wish for?” Khadija’s mom scolded her the 50th time for not agreeing to marry one of the guys in the family. She had demanded a well-educated man when her family asked her what type of guy she wanted to marry. That’s how conjugal things in a Pakistani family work. Her family had been trying to pursue her to marry that guy because he was “dekha bhala” (known in the family) and matched Khadija’s demands. But, she didn’t like him that way. In fact, she didn’t like him in anyway, but it was hard to explain it to her family members. Especially her parents wanted her to marry him because her dad feared to give her daughter to a man they didn’t know and her mom insisted because he belonged to her family. That’s how desi (Pakistani) parents are! But …
